Our Impact

Some inspiring and touching stories from children, parents, and teachers, reflecting the impact of Children ReachOut Uganda’s Inclusive Learning Environment initiative.

1. From Hopeless to Hopeful: A Mother’s Gratitude

Mary – Parent at Kasubi Family Primary School

“For years, my son struggled in school because of his mobility challenges. Every day, he had to be carried up the stairs, and he often missed school due to exhaustion and embarrassment. But when Children ReachOut Uganda built ramps and walkways, everything changed. Now, he moves freely with his wheelchair, joins his classmates without struggle, and his confidence has grown. As a mother, I can finally dream of a better future for him. Thank you for making my son feel like he belongs.”

2. Dignity Restored: A Girl’s Story

Aisha, 14 years – Namugoona Kigobe Primary School

“I used to miss school every month because I couldn’t afford sanitary pads. I felt ashamed and left behind. But thanks to Children ReachOut Uganda, I now receive sanitary products regularly. I no longer have to choose between my education and my dignity. Today, I walk into class with my head held high, knowing that I have the support I need to chase my dreams.”

3. A Teacher’s Joy: Seeing Inclusion in Action

Mr. Mugisha – Teacher at St. Joseph Mapeera Primary School

“As a teacher, I have seen children struggle due to a lack of proper facilities. But now, with the improved toilet facilities and the provision of assistive devices, our special needs learners no longer feel neglected. One of my students, Samuel, who has low vision, received a magnifying reading device. He now reads his books without difficulty, and his grades have improved. I see a new level of enthusiasm in my class. Inclusion is not just a word; it is action, and Children ReachOut Uganda has made it real for us.”

4. A Chance to Learn: The Power of Sponsorship

Peter, 11 years – Mengo Primary School

“When my father lost his job, I had to stop school. I watched my friends go to class while I stayed home, unsure if I would ever wear a school uniform again. But then, I got sponsored by Children ReachOut Uganda. They gave me school fees, books, and a uniform. Today, I am back in school, learning and dreaming of becoming a doctor. This sponsorship is more than just financial support—it is hope for a brighter future.”

5. Walking Without Barriers: A Special Needs Child’s Journey

Joan, 9 years – Namirembe Infants Primary School

“I was born with a physical disability, and going to school was hard. The rough paths and high steps made me feel trapped. Sometimes, my friends had to carry me to class. But when the ramps and walkways were built, everything changed. Now, I can move on my own, and I feel like a normal student. I can go to the library, to the playground, and anywhere I want. School is no longer a struggle—it is a place where I belong.”

The Impact of Our Porridge Program in Schools

At Children ReachOut Uganda, we believe that no child should learn on an empty stomach. That is why we introduced the Children’s Porridge Program — a simple, nutritious intervention with a powerful mission: to fuel learning, restore dignity, and inspire hope in the hearts of children from underserved communities.

One bright example of this impact happened recently at Kasubi Family Primary School, where over 900 children were served a warm cup of porridge and a piece of bread . For many of these children, it was the only meal they would have that day.

Meet Brenda, a shy Primary Four pupil. Before the porridge program started, Brenda would often arrive at school weak and distracted. Her concentration would fade before midday. “I used to feel hungry in class, and I couldn’t understand what the teacher was saying,” she shares. But ever since the program began, Brenda beams with energy and confidence. “Now I am happy. I drink porridge, and I can read without sleeping.”

Teachers have also noticed the change. Tr Florence, a senior teacher at the school, says attendance has improved and children are more active in class. “Porridge has given life to our classrooms. Children now smile in the morning and stay alert throughout the day. It’s a simple meal, but it has changed everything.”

The porridge program is not just feeding children— it is keeping them in school, improving academic performance, and restoring hope in families that struggle with daily survival.
In communities where most children eat only once a day, this small cup of porridge is more than food. It’s comfort. It’s energy. It’s a reason to come to school. It’s a promise that someone cares.

The Children’s Porridge Program is proof that small acts of love can create lasting change. A single cup of porridge may seem ordinary—but to a hungry child, it is everything. It means the chance to learn, to grow, and to dream.
